How do I invite international partners, experts, or speakers for a short-term visit to Westlake University?

If you would like to invite a potential partner, expert, or speaker (referred to as "international invitees") to forums, lectures, academic exchange, interviews, or training at Westlake University, he or she must obtain an appropriate Chinese visa type which shall match the purposes of the visit to Westlake University. The Office of International Affairs will assist you with visa issues after you have filed an application for approval through our internal online system. How do I invite international visiting scholars to work at Westlake for more than 15 days?

International visiting scholars are academic visitors who are staying for work purposes at Westlake University between a minimum of 15 days or a maximum of one year. International visiting scholars are categorized into Category A (professors) and Category B (scholars). Before arrival, international visiting scholars need to obtain the adequate visa to enter China. The Office of International Affairs will assist you with the required paperwork after you have filed an application for approval through our internal online system. How do I get my work visa, work permit, and residence permit?

If you hold a foreign passport and you are or will be employed full-time at Westlake University, you need to either obtain a work visa and then, after arrival in China, a work and residence permit, or you must get a permanent residence ID card (if eligible). Foreign experts are categorized into Type A (high-end foreign talent) and Type B (foreign professional talent, including international post-docs) in official regulations. Depending on the individual case, the application procedures are very different. The Office of International Affairs will assist you and your family with the required paperwork. 


The Office of International Affairs also launched an online recording and reminder system to avoid expiration and ensure the validity of your documents. The online system will record the expiration dates of your documents and send you reminder emails early in advance. Please login to the Online Service Hall and fill out the registration form for document service. You may designate and authorize an administrator to fill out the form.

How do I get approval for my international business trip?

Overseas business trips of faculty and staff at Westlake University must get approved before departure. Please click here to access the Online Service Hall.

How do I get approval for an overseas academic trip of my students?

If one of your students would like to go on an overseas academic trip, the traveling student shall get approval before departure and submit a report after the trip.

How do I get approval for hosting or organizing an international conference at or in the name of Westlake University or its affiliated departments?

According to government requirements, if you are organizing an international conference, please contact the Office of International Affairs at least two to three months before the public announcement of the conference. According to the scope and size of the conference, the Office of International Affairs will help you file the required documents at the corresponding authorities. 


How can I get support in establishing international collaborations and partnerships?

International collaborations and partnerships can be set up at different levels. Westlake University, its schools, centers, platforms, and labs can establish relationships with overseas institutions for faculty, staff or student exchanges, joint research or joint education programs. If you would like to start a partnership in the name of Westlake University, please contact the Office of International Affairs for assistance in establishing successful and meaningful partnerships.
